Classification of Elderly-friendly Assistive Products Based on WHO ICF

Abstract
Objective : The WHO ICF is a representative of the international classification that classify the health and disability domains based on functioning. In 2016 the ISO 9999 to classify the assistive products for person with disability was revised based on the Chapter 1 of the environment factors of the WHO ICF. This paper proposes a new definition and classification scheme for the elderly-friendly assistive products based on the functioning defined in the WHO ICF and the ISO 9999.

Methods : This study refers and analyses previous studies and government notifications on the elderly-friendly assistive products and the classification structures of the WHO ICF and the ISO standard.

Results : A new definition and classification of the elderly-friendly assistive products was proposed based on the WHO ICF which classifies and defines the health and disability domains by the functioning.

Conclusion : This study proposed a definition and classification of the elderly-friendly assistive products based on body function, activity, and participation of elderly people in activities of daily living based on the WHO ICF and the ISO 9999. This results is applicable to plan a consistent government policy for elderly people.
